New book project - Idea of Srpska
For a long time, I have been thinking about writing a military history book about Bosnia and other parts of ex-Yugoslavia concerning what often is called the Balkan War and Yugoslav Wars in the literature about wars that took place in ex-Yugoslavia during the 1990s. Around two years ago, I started collecting information in the form of books, articles, and other relevant documents and informing when, how, and why a construction called Republika Srpska (Serb Republic) was created.
I am writing construction because all units for human organizing as villages, cities, nations, unions are ideas, stories, and social constructions. They are part of our social world, and their existence depends on us as humans believing in them. This is also the case with Bosnia and Herzegovina because its construction, meaning, and existence have changed through history during the last 200 years.
One of my aims with book writing is to present arguments and findings that Republika Srpska, known as the “Serb part of Bosna”, where I used to live between 1992-2003, was not a “natural creation” nor created “by the people” from the beginning. Instead, my ambition is to write about ideas and developments that led to creating one of the remaining ethnocracies in Europe.
The focus for the book is going to be the following aspects:
Ideas, videos, and stories
Individuals and organizations
Newspapers and media
Yugoslavia during the 20th century
Yugoslav federalism and Serb nationalism
War crimes and other crimes against humanity
Developments in Croatia during 1990-91
International Community, globalization and Europe (EU)
